Summing up the MFest

I'm happy to say that the Malaysian Fest we organised yesterday was a success!

The event was from 11am until 2, but we had started setting things up at around 9 in the morning. Basically there were four sections of the whole event; Performances, Exhibition, Games and Food. For performances, we had Malay dances, a Dikir Puteri performance, and Silat (a Malay martial arts).. some of the juniors even took part in a Malay 'mock wedding', and they made all those bunga manggar and hantaran (which reminds me so much of the mock wedding my primary school once had when I was eight years old!)

Then there were info displays about Malaysia at the Exhibition booth - Malaysian history, achievements, costumes, festivals etc. We also had batiks, tees and a couple of other merchandise up for sale there.

And the Games booth, boy aren't they awesome! They displayed some of the traditional games we usually play back home, like Congkak, Sepak Raga, Batu Seremban, Galah Panjang and Gasing. I didn't get to come to the booth during the three hours, but I heard my friends there had fun teaching Australians and students from other countries on how to play the games.. especially the Gasing (tricky as it gets!)

My housemates and I were handling the Food booth together with some of our teammates. Among the meals on the menu were Nasi Lemak, Curry Noodles, Lontong, Curry puffs and Corn Congee. People were flooding the counter right from the start that even Kim (the Student Guild officer) came in to give a hand. I reckon it was because we were selling it during lunchtime, hence the crowd. Alhamdulillah everything sold out hehe. I initially had some fears of having packs of food left untouched at the end of the day since we doubled up the quantities we're selling compared to the Harmony Day we had previously, but after the currypuffs went out of stock only half an hour past eleven, I was deeply convinced. hahaha
Too bad none of us got the chance to watch the performances which was at noon due to that :( We could only hear the traditional songs that they played (the stage was just around the corner!) how tempting apakan daya haha

There were some hiccups here and there, I guess that's just normal, what more it was our first time organising an event of our own and on our own. But on the whole we managed to pull it through.. the team effort worked wonders! :D At one point I really hoped that my seniors from Cohort 4 are still here then it would certainly be massive :)

I'd like to thank everyone who have worked hard for the event, may it be before or on the day itself.. I guess I must've had exploded at some point I'm truly sorry if that bothers you. At the end of the day it all comes down to feeling relieved and grateful that He granted my prayers for everything to go as planned, Alhamdulillah. I didn't get to snap much photos, only some taken during the setup.. InsyaAllah I'll ask from my fellow friends and post it here. Fingers crossed that they'd have at least some pictures of me -_-
Even if there are, it must've been candids (in which, looking through my previous experiences, I am never good at.. ha.ha.)

Till then!
